Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wins 2016 Global Indian of the Year award

Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was awarded the 2016 Global Indian of the Year award at the NRI of the Year award function held in Mumbai.

Besides her, Indian star tennis player Sania Mirza was also honoured at the 2016 NRI of the Year Award.

It was the third season NRI of the Year award function in which 17 individuals were given the awards under different categories like entrepreneur, academics, professional, arts & culture, special jury award, philanthropy, global icon of the year and India’s global icon award.

The 2016 edition of the awards were woven together thematically and the debut theme was Contemporary Crusoes.

About NRI of the Year Award

  • The NRI of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievements of the Indian diaspora globally in different categories.
  • These awards are conferred to salute the spirit of the globetrotting Indians who have resided in any of the four regions of Asia Pacific, America, middle East and UK.
  • The 2014 and 2015 awards of global Indian of the year were conferred on Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan respectively.
