Union Cabinet approves MoU between India and Mauritius in the field of Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation

The Union Cabinet has approved signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Mauritius in the field of Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation.

The MoU will encourage cooperation between both countries in the field of rural development and capacity building on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

Key Facts

  • The MoU will help to establish a framework for cooperation between the National Development Unit of Mauritius and Union Ministry of Rural Development in the sphere of rural development.
  • Under it, a Joint Committee on Cooperation on Rural Development will be established which will meet alternatively in both countries on mutually agreed dates.
  • Both countries will coordinate and facilitate appropriate technical cooperation, including the access to Indian expertise institutions for fulfilling the objectives of this MoU.
  • They will also exchange of relevant information in the sphere of rural development, including scientific and technical information together with policies and support measures.

Background

The MoU was signed taking into consideration the institutional arrangement for bilateral cooperation between India and Mauritius in the field of rural development and poverty alleviation. Both countries have a large segment of their population living in rural areas and for their livelihoods are pre-dominantly dependent on agriculture and its allied activities.

Union Cabinet approves MoU between India and Mozambique in the field of Drug demand reduction and prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs

The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Mozambique on Drug demand reduction and related matters.

The MoU also envisages prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals.

It also aims to enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries in combating illicit trafficking in Narcotic drugs, Psychotropic substances and their precursors through exchange of expertise, information and capacity building.

Punjab Government launches Rapid Rural Police Response System

Punjab Government has launched Rapid Rural Police Response System (RRPRS) to ensure prompt and effective police response in 12,000 villages across the state.

The system was launched Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and  Sukhbir Singh Badal. Besides, he also flagged off 400 new motorcycles and 220 new Bolero jeeps under the new system.

Key Facts

  • The RRPRS has been launched by Punjab police to ensure prompt and effective police response in villages to counter any crime or law and order situation in just 20 minutes.
  • Under this system, any resident from rural area of state would only have to make a call on police helpline “100” for any kind of assistance from the police force.
  • The new system would be available for 24×7 hours to respond to all kinds of emergencies or ‘call-for-help’ from the citizens of the State.
  • For this purpose, a special control room equipped with computer-aided dispatch software had also been set up.
