4th India Water Impact Summit held in Delhi

The Union Minister of Jal Shakti inaugurated the fourth water impact summit in New Delhi. In 2019, the summit is to focus on integrated management of water resources in rural and urban areas. At the summit, the experts from various fields discuss the biggest problems associated with water.

Highlights

The summit will hold second Water Finance Forum that focusses on bringing global financial investors and institutions together. The event will also focus on water impact in smart cities and delivering on Jal Jeewan Mission. During the event, report on river restoration and conservation was released by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Significance

It is important to observe and study usage of water and its impact. This is because India holds only about 4% of global fresh water but is home to 18% of world population. By 2030, urban India will have 600 million people strength. This will increase the stress on water bodies and rivers tremendously.

Government Measures

In order to control the impact of human activities on water and to reduce water scarcity, the Government of India has launched several initiatives. It includes Environment Flow and Urban River Management Plan, Ganga River Basin Management Plan, Jal Jeevan Mission, National Mission for Clean Ganga, etc.
