April 21: World Creativity and Innovation Day

Every year on April 21, the World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebrated by the United Nations. The day creates awareness about the importance of innovation and creativity to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. They are also called the Global goals.

Highlights

Creativity and Innovation are the two main wealth of a country in the 21st century according to the Creative Economy Report published by United Nations Development Programme, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and UNOSSC (United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation).

At this moment, when COVID-19 has induced international lock down, it is important for major economic players to be creative to keep the global economy running.

Significance

The report says that creative industries and culture should be the major economic strategies of a country. These industries have a potential of generating 2.25 billion USD revenue worldwide. It is also capable of producing 29.5 million jobs world wide.
