India to host Asian Boxing Championship

The National Sports Federation of India recently announced that it is host the Asian Boxing Championship by November-December 2020. The federation is positive about the virus to be wiped out by then.


The host city of the competition is to be finalised after things normalize. The host city is to be decided by the Boxing Federation of India.

About the competition

The competition is a biennial event but was held in consecutive years in the past. Apart from this, the Olympic qualification programme is also likely to begin around November-December by the International Olympic Committee.

Boxing and India

India hosted men’s Asia boxing championship in Mumbai in 1980. It hosted the women’s event in Hisar in 2003. Around five men and four women have been qualified for Tokyo Olympics from India so far.

BFI is the governing body for Olympic boxing in India. It represents India at the International Boxing Association.

FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup postponed to November

The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) or the International Federation of Association Football has postponed the Under-17 Women’s world cup to November 2020.


The FIFA Federations decided that the Under-17 and Under-20 Women’s World Cup be postponed. The Under-20 women’s FIFA world cup was planned to be conducted in Panama Costa Rica. The Under-17 Women’s FIFA world cup was scheduled to be conducted in Indian cities such as Guwahati, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata.


FIFA is an international governing body that conducts football, beach soccer and efootball tournaments. It was founded in 1904. The headquarters of the association is located in Zurich, Switzerland.

India and FIFA

The men team of India currently under the captainship of Sunil Chhetri has never participated in the FIFA world cup. After independence in 1947, India qualified for world cup. However, withdrew from the tournament as Indian players were not allowed to play bear foot and also due to expenses. Till today, team is yet to qualify the tournament.

India had qualified for AFC Asian Cup and Olympics.
