Facts Box: India-Russia plan joint projects in Asia and Africa

India and Russia held a virtual meeting on “India-Russia Relations in the context of post-pandemic global order”. The meet was organized by Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).


The conference was initiated in 2017 and was being held alternately in Moscow and New Delhi. The experts attending the conference discussed potential of digital technologies to activate economic relations and reforms. The countries agreed to create an ecosystem of startups to develop Information Technology.


Asia and Africa have been the priority for both the countries. India and Russia have also been cooperating in BRICS, SCO, RIC (Russia-India-Chin), UN and G20. The council meet will also help to reviewing projects. It will also help to identify new areas where the countries can begin joint ventures.

Indian Council of World Affairs

The Indian Council of World Affairs was established in 1943. It was declared as an institution of national importance in 2001. The ICWA is a member of United Nations Academic Impact.

The Vice President of India is the Ex-Officio President of the council. Ministry of External Affairs is its vice President.

United Nations Academic Impact

The UNAI is a wing of the United Nations that aligns institutions of higher education, research and scholarship with the UN and also with each other. It also helps to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by bringing out relationship between education and sustainable development.
