On May 30, 2020, the Union Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad launched an initiative called “Responsible AI for Youth” and an Artificial Intelligence Portal called www.ai.gov.in.

Highlights

The programme and the portal were launched to commemorate the first anniversary of second tenure of Narendra Modi Government.

Responsible AI for Youth

The Responsible AI for Youth was launched targeting the youth in the country. The programme aims to provide a platform to empower their new age technology skills especially AI based skills. The programme has been launched in collaboration with Intel India.

Portal

The minister along with the programme launched the portal called www.ai.gov.in. The portal was developed by the E-Governance division operating under Ministry of Electronics and IT.

The portal shall act as a one stop platform for AI resources. It will share articles, startups that are in the field of AI, case studies, reports, etc.

India’s path in AI

The main challenge of AI is that it minimizes work force (labours) employed. Especially for a highly populous country like India, AI if not developed in the right direction might create huge unemployment crisis. Therefore, India has chosen its path of AI cautiously. India is developing AI by empowering its citizens rather than making humans less relevant.
