Inauguration of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana
Recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in a programme called “Grih Pravesh” the programme was organized under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana. The programme fulfils the Modi Government agenda of housing for all by 2022. The program was live telecasted in 16,440 Gram panchayats and 26,548 villages. About 1 crore 25 people in total registered to listen to this program.
When the programme was launched?
PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin) is a flagship programme which was launched on 20th November 2016. The programme erstwhile known as Indira Awaas Yojana is a social welfare programme started by the Indian Government in order to make sure every people get housing by 2022. The programme was launched by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the year 1985
Benefits provided under the programme
A beneficiary is provided with the support the of unskilled labour wages for a 90-95 man-day under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). A total of 12,000 rupees is provided for the construction of the toilets through Swachh Bharat Mission. The funds are sent directly to the beneficiary’s account in four instalments.
Aim of the programme
The programme was launched with an aim to provide financial assistance to the weakest people of the society the people who lie at below poverty line. The main objective of the programmes is to replace kutcha house to pukka house.
Progress so far
Despite global pandemic, eighteen lakh houses have been completed in the country. Out of 18 lakh, 1.75 lakh houses were constructed in Madhya Pradesh itself. The work was proposed to be completed in 125 days and it got completed in 35-40 days.
