Italy’s parliament dissolved

Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano dissolved parliament following the resignation of Prime Minister Mario Monti.

Monti resigned early after former premier Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right People of Freedom party (PdL) withdrew support from the emergency cabinet.
