MoMSME and CBDT sign MoU

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to share data.

Highlights

The Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate sharing of Income Tax Return related information by the Income Tax Department of MoMSME. Nodal officers will be appointed to facilitate the process of data exchange.

Significance

The MoU is important as MSME is currently the primary focus of MSME sector. GoI launched several measures under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to bring out MSME sector from COVID-19 crisis. MSMEs in the country were badly affected due to COVID-19 and lock down.

National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy

The policy was approved in 2012. The main objective of the policy is to share data and information owned by GoI in both human readable and machine readable forms.

Under the policy, open Government Data initiative was started. The Department of Electronic and Information Technology is the nodal agency implementing the policy through National Informatics Centre. The platform of open Government Data provides access to resources published by government entities.
