The President of Egypt Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi took over the chairmanship of African Union from Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda. African Union chairmen set agendas of issues to be addressed during their tenure of one-year. El-Sissi is expected to concentrate on security and financial reform.
The Heads of State and Government of the Organisation of African Unity issued a Declaration, Sirte Declaration calling for the establishment of an African Union on 9.9.1999. The road map for the Union was drawn up at the Lusaka Summit (2001) and the Union was established on 9 July 2002 in South Africa. The African Union replaced the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), established on 25 May 1963.
Africa Day (formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day) is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) (now known as the African Union) on 25 May 1963.
The African Union was established for accelerating the process of integration in the continent to enable it play its rightful role in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems compounded as they are by certain negative aspects of globalisation. All UN member states based in Africa and on African waters are members of the AU
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Summit. On the occasion, the Prime Minister also set the target for breaching into top 50 rankings of the ease of doing business.
The three-day Vibrant Gujarat Summit will witness the participation of the heads of five countries Uzbekistan, Rwanda, Denmark, Czech Republic and Malta – and over 30,000 national and international delegates. A round-table interaction with the heads of global funds, ‘Africa Day’ and an MSME convention would also be held during the convention.
Vibrant Gujarat Summit
Vibrant Gujarat Summit conceptualized in 2003 by then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi, to establish Gujarat as a preferred investment destination within India.
The objectives of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit are:
