Scripps National Spelling Bee contest: Indian-Americans dominate for 6th consecutive year

Indian-American Arvind Mahankali (13) won the Scripps National Spelling Bee contest, as children from the community created history by dominating the prestigious contest for the 6th year in a row, holding top three positions this year.

This is the sixth consecutive year that an Indian-American has won the contest, which was watched live by millions of people in the United States.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee (commonly called the National Spelling Bee) is an annual spelling bee held in the United States.  Anyone who is in eighth grade or below and is under 16 years old is eligible for this contest. Participants from countries other than the U.S. must be regional spelling-bee winners as well. The winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee receives a $30,000 cash prize

Google launches ‘Mapathon 2013’ competition to “map” India

image Google has unveiled its first ever mapping competition in India – Mapathon 2013. It is a nationwide mapping contest open to anyone who lives in India. Google will give prizes to top 1000 mappers who will win Android tablets, smartphones, gift vouchers and Google merchandise.
