India’s first and ONLY Women Chief Election Commissioner Ramadevi passed away

Ms. V.S. Ramadevi (79), former Governor of Karnataka and former Chief Election Commissioner of India, passed away.

  • First woman to became Chief Election Commissioner of India.
  • Chief Election Commissioner from November 26, 1990 to December 11, 1990.
  • She was succeeded by T. N. Seshan.
  • Till date, she is the only woman to hold the post of Chief Election Commissioner of India.
  • Governor of Himachal Pradesh July 1997 to December 1999
  • Governor of Karnataka from December 1999 to August 2002

Results of Assembly Elections 2012: Congress wins HP

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress has made a comeback after five years by defeating incumbent BJP led government by a handsome margin. Congress clinched 36 out of the total 68 seats, whereas, BJP managed to win only 26 seats.
