Chess Legend Viswanathan Anand named ambassador of WWF India

On April 17, 2020, the Chess legend Viswanathan Anand was named the ambassador of World Wide Fund India. He has joined the organization for its environment education programme.

Highlights

The environment education programme was started in 1976. It undertakes initiatives to reach out to  youth, school children and citizens in the country. The main aim of the programme is to create problem solvers, critical thinkers and environmentally conscious individuals.

It reaches out to 5 lakh children and 2000 schools.

World Wide Fund

The WWF is an international NGO that was founded in 1961. It is the largest conservation organization in the world with more than 5 million supporters. The organization has so far invested 1 billion USD in more than 12,000 conservation initiatives.

Viswanathan Anand

He is an Indian Chess Grandmaster. HE has won the world Chess champion multiple times. He was the first chess grandmaster from India. He won the FIDE World chess championship continuously between 2000 and 2002 and was the first Asian to achieve this.

Raunak at 13, becomes India’s 65th Grand Master

Raunak Sadhwani will be the 65th Indian Grand Master (Chess) at the age of 13 years! On October 18, 2019, Sadhwani with a rating of 2479 has already gained 23 points to cross the stipulated mark of 2500 in live ratings. He just needs to turn up for the next two rounds to gain his final norms.

Even Viswanathan Anand and Adhiban were battling on the leading boards. However, the youngster drew with Gabriel Sagrissian to take four points from seven rounds.

Sadhwani is from Nagpur and is an international master. He got his first master title at Aeroflot Open 2019 and second title at Poticcio Open 2019. He was trained by the former world champion Vladimir Kramnik. He worked with the Russian player as a part of Kramnik-Microsense India Chess program. It was held in Switzerland in August, 2019.

It connects various national chess federations all over the world. It is the governing body of the international chess competition. It was founded in Paris.
