International Centre for Automotive Technology Current Affairs - 2020
On July 17, 2020, Government of India announced that five portals are being developed by different organizations to promote innovation in India. This will help boost Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
The portals being developed are for specific sectors and are as follows
- BHEL for power sector
- CMFTI for manufacturing sector
- HMT for machine tools
- ICAT and ARAI for automotive sector.
About the Portals
The portals were launched to bring the problem solvers and solution seekers together. The portal will focus on academia, industry, research institute, startups and experts.
The portals will help to make their target sectors self-reliant (Atma Nirbhar). The activities in the portal will include the following
- Research and Development
- Technological Innovations
- Manufacturing and Process Technology Development
- To conduct market research and technology surveys
- Quality problem resolution
The ASPIRE portal was prepared by ICAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology). The portal is to be completely functional to host grand challenges and provide elaborate resource databases.

The three-day NuGen Mobility Summit 2019 will be held in Manesar, Haryana from November 27 to 29, 2019. It will be organized by International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Manesar based on the theme “Smart & Green Mobility” to find alternative mobility solutions to problems like pollution emanating from vehicular emissions. It will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari.
About NuGen Mobility Summit, 2019
Organized by: International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) in association with SAENIS, SAE INDIA, SAE International, NATRiP, DIMTS, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, SIAM and ACMA.
Objective: To provide a platform for sharing new ideas, learnings, global experiences, innovations and future technology trends for faster adoption, assimilation and development of advanced automotive technologies for a smarter and greener future.
Key Features of Summit: It aims to bring together the automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), professionals, researchers, academic experts, vehicle system suppliers, test equipment supplier, quality managers, product planners, component developers, SAE members and students from all over the world.
It will aim to identify trends and roadmap for the future of sustainable mobility in the country and to address the challenges faced by various stakeholders. It seeks to build a platform for bringing together all stakeholders in the automotive industry to understand global advancements in technologies.
Participation: More than 2,500 participants and over 250 exhibitors from 14 countries apart form India are expected to take part in the summit.
About International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Manesar
It is division of NATRIP Implementation Society (NATIS) under the Department of Heavy Industries, Government of India. It was established in 2006 at Manesar, Haryana.
Mandate: (i) Provide leading world class services for testing, validation, design and homologation of all categories of vehicles (ii) To assist the automotive industry in adopting cutting edge technologies in vehicle evaluation and component development. (ii) To support automotive industries for ISO/IEC 17025:2005 implementation and NABL accreditation of their laboratories.
