Grassroot Olympic- Mission Talent Hunt launched in Assam to groom talent

Assam Olympic Association (AOA) has launched new programme- ‘Grassroot Olympic – Mission Talent Hunt’ to identify and groom sports talent in the state. Its launch was annouced by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during the executive committee meeting  of AOA. Sarbananda Sonowal is President of AOA and minister of state (MoS) for health Pijush Hazarika is its vice-chairman.

Key decisions taken at Executive committee meeting of AOA

AOA constituted various sub-committees and commissions for the Khelo India Youth Games. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Assam from January 10-22, 2020. It was decided that AOA will organise sports events in 5 categories covering players from 10 to 60 years of age in the state.

It also constituted committee under the chairmanship of vice-chairman of AOA. This committee is responsible for interacting with grassroot level sports organizations, clubs, sports organizers. It will prepare a detailed action plan and connect with the field to spot the talented sportspersons.

Khelo India Youth Games 2019

Khelo India Youth games 2019 are being held at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. Previously called as Khelo India School Games, it has been now renamed as Khelo India Youth Games.

Khelo India Youth games are held annually in January or February as the national level multidisciplinary grassroot games. The games are held in two categories- under-17 years school students and under-21 college students.

Kelo India Youth games are part of  Khelo India programme, which was introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

Khelo India programme has been divided into 12 verticals, namely:

Talented players identified in priority sports disciplines at various levels by the High-Powered Committee will be provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years.
