Sports Authority of India deposits Rs 30,000 in Khelo India Athletes accounts

The Sports Authority of India recently transferred Rs 30,000 to the accounts of Khelo India athletes. The authority has spent Rs 8.25 crores in all to achieve this.


The Sports Authority of India recently deposited Rs 30,000 to more than 2749 Khelo India athletes accounts. The sports allowance has been provided for the athletes to travel to their home town, to keep up their diet at home and to suffice other miscellaneous expenses.

The Out of Pocket Allowance under Khelo India scholarship is Rs 1.20 lakhs annually.

The Khelo India was launched to boost sports culture in India. The scheme is being implemented by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The scheme also aims to make India a great sporting nation.

The Government of India under the scheme provides financial assistance of Rs 5 lakhs per annum over the period of 8 years.

Under the Scheme, the ministry of sports conducts school level, college level and university level programmes.

Khelo India Youth Games 2020 to be held in Guwahati

Union Minister of Sports Kiren Rijiju announced that 3rd edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Guwahati, Assam between 18-30 January 2020. Khelo India programme’s inaugural edition was held in New Delhi in 2018, while Pune hosted 2nd edition in 2019.

2020 Games will be conducted in partnership with Indian Olympic Association (IOA), School Games Federation of India (SGFI) & Assam as host State. The event will see a participation of over 10,000 athletes and officials from all over country and it will be held .

About Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG)

KIYG formerly called Khelo India School Games (KISG) literally means Play India Youth Games are held annually in month of January or February.

These are National level multidisciplinary grassroots games held for two categories-

Under-17 years school students

Under-21 college students

Financial Assistance: Every year best performing 1000 participants are given an annual scholarship of INR 5,00,000 for 8 years to prepare them for international sporting events.

Significance: Khelo India programme was introduced by Union Ministry of Sports to revive sports culture in India at grass-root level. It seeks to build a strong framework for all sports played in country as well as establish India as a great sporting nation.
