The Strategic Force Command of the Indian Army conducted a successful practice trial of indigenously developed nuclear capable Agni-I ballistic missile with a strike range of 700 km from a test range off Odisha coast.
Agni-I is developed by DRDO in collaboration with Defence Research Development Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat and integrated by Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad. It is a single-stage missile powered by solid propellants with specialized navigation system providing it high degree of accuracy and precision. It is capable of carrying warheads of up to 1000 kg.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing a new missile launch site in Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore.
Currently the launch facilities are at Chandipur and Wheeler Island locations in Balasore in Odisha.
