Grand Prix of Spain Women’s Wrestling: Vinesh, Divya win gold

At the Grand Prix of Spain Women’s Wrestling India’s top wrestler Vinesh Phogat won her 1st gold medal after shifting to 53kg category and Divya Kakran claimed top honours in 68kg category in Madrid, Spain.

India finished 2nd with 130 points in team championship behind Russia with 165 points.

Vinesh Phogat (53kg) and Divya Kakran (68kg) won gold.

Other Winners: Pooja Dhanda in 57kg category, Seema in 50kg category, Manju Kumari in 59kg category and Kiran in 76kg category registered silver to their name.

Vinesh Phogat: is one of India’s medal hopefuls at 2020 Tokyo Games. She was competing only in her 3rd tournament in this new (53) category. Before this tournament in Madrid she had competed in Asian Championship and Dan Kolov, where she won a bronze and silver respectively in 53kg category. She is a Gold medal winner at Jakarta Asian Games.

Dan Kovlov

The Wrestling event is named after wrestling legend Doncho Kolеv Danev better known by the ring name Dan Kolov. Dan Kolov was a Bulgarian wrestler and he was the first European freestyle wrestling champion from Bulgaria.

Dan Kovlov had between 1,500 and 2,000 fights and won almost all of them and he has registered only three losses in official matches.
