HTC appoints Faisal Siddiqui as new South Asia chief

Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has appointed Faisal Siddiqui as new regional President of HTC South Asia.

He will replace current president Jack Yang, who is leaving the company for personal reasons.

Currently, Faisal Siddiqui is Vice President and head of HTC India.

As president of HTC South Asia he will lead company and work to strengthen the company in the region which includes, India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and emerging markets in Asia.

Faisal Siddiqui has more than 18 years of rich industry experience and has been leading HTC’s India operations since 2011.

‘IBM Simon’: World’s first smartphone turns 20

simonWorld’s first smartphone to come into existence— a $900 klutzy IBM Simon mobile phone —turned 20. The phone was developed by IBM and the American cellular company BelSelf and hit the market in 1994.

It was around 23 cm long and weighed half a kg. Though looked gawky, Simon could do almost anything you wanted. It had touch screen technology with its green LCD screen. Its software allowed users to write notes, draw, update their calendar and contacts and send and receive faxes as well as calls.
