India Pavilion was inaugurated at 44th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2019 by High Commissioner of India to Canada Vikas Swarup on 6 September 2019. The Inauguration of India Pavilion at TIFF 2019 will provide a platform to showcase Indian Cinema in overseas market and facilitate new business opportunities.

44th TIFF 2019
Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is participating at 44th TIFF 2019 which is currently being held from 5-15 September 2019 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The market potential for Indian content in Toronto is huge because of strong presence of Indian diaspora and great interest in Indian Cinema. As India-Canada are in a co-production treaty and therefore opportunities to work on co-producing films with Canada will be explored by Delegation during course of the Festival.
Inauguration Ceremony- Participants and Discussion
Nearly 60 eminent personalities from Film-making Sector & Film Festivals, participated at Inauguration Ceremony of India Pavilion.
Discussions were held on topics including Participation in Golden Jubilee edition of IFFI 2019 (in Goa) and details regarding nature of programming during Festival.
50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2019 poster and brochure were also released at TIFF 2019. The year 2019 marks the Golden Jubilee Edition of IFFI which is to be held in Goa later this year. TIFF provides ideal platform for global outreach of 50th IFFI 2019.
Significance for India:
Film-makers of Global Film Fraternity get opportunity to understand key elements of Festival and the impact of Indian Cinema on film making globally. Indian movies have created new benchmark in film making globally and every Film Festival acknowledges enormous potential of India’s soft Power.
A number of participants showed keen interest in understanding policy framework on matters related to Co-production Agreements and Ease of Doing Business (EDB) in domain of Indian Media & Entertainment Industry. Stakeholders were also informed about various initiatives undertaken by Government related to Single Window Clearance for filming in India.

Veteran actor Meryl Streep will be honoured with Tribute Actor award at 2019 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). She will receive award in person on 9 September 2019 during TIFF’s Tribute Gala, a festival fundraiser. She will be 1st-ever recipient of TIFF Tribute Actor Award.
