Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) Current Affairs - 2020
The TRIFED operating under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has signed an agreement with IIT Delhi to implement Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
The Agreement was signed for the tribal entrepreneurs working under the Van Dhan programme of TRIFED to access 2600+ research works of several institutions that are part of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. With the new agreement, the tribal forest dwellers engaged in Minor Forest Produce will be able to access new processing technologies, mentorship transformational digital systems, product innovation and handholding.
The IIT-TRIFED partnership will also receive help from VIBHA movement. VIBHA is Vijnana Bharati science movement. The movement creates awareness about significant development of science and technology in India. It will map and reach out to various stake holders to converge with the focus to strengthen Van Dhan Yojana. The movement was founded by the eminent scientists of Indian Institute of Science, IISc.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The programme aims to link a higher education institute with at least 5 villages. The institutes using their knowledge base will contribute to social and economic betterment of these village communities. So far 13,702 villages have been adopted by 2,474 institutes.

On June 15, 2020, a webinar was organized by the TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India). The webinar was titled “Van Dhan: Tribal Startups Bloom in India”
During the webinar, it was informed that current coverage Van Dhan scheme is to be increased from 18,000 SHGs to 50,000 SHGs. This is to be achieved through Van Dhan Start-up programme.
What is the plan?
The plan is to expand the Van Dhan SHGs and cover 10 lakh tribal gatherers. The aim is to transform tribal ecosystem as next Amul Revolution in terms of Minor Forest Produce.
Van Dhan Vikas Karyakram
The Government of India has allocated Rs 15 lakhs to every Van Dhan Vikas Karyakram centre. So far 25% to 30% of the grant has been spent on these centres.
Under the Van Dhan Scheme, so far 1205 Tribal enterprises have been established. The start up scheme launched has covered 10 lakh tribal gatherers. The start ups that were started based on tribal produce are now spread across 22 states. These Startups are called Van Dhan Startups.
