China has launched Yaogan-26 a remote sensing satellite into the preset orbit from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Centre in north China’s Shanxi Province.
The satellite was carried by a Long March-4B rocket, marking the 202th mission for the rocket family.
Yaogan-26 satellite will mainly be used for scientific experiments, land surveys, crop yield estimates and disaster prevention.
Facts about Yaogan Satellite series
- In 2006, China launched Yaogan-1, first satellite in the Yaogan series.
- In total, China has planned to launch about 70 remote sensing satellites to detect the near-Earth space environment and predict extreme events.
- As part of Yaogan Satellite series, China is also launching about 20 communication satellites to meet communication demand in national security and public services.
- Besides, China is launching about 30 navigation satellites to provide accurate and reliable global positioning and navigation services.
