UK confirmed as first co-chair to India led Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure

The United Kingdom is to co-chair India led CDRI (Global Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure). The CDRI was established by PM Modi at the G20 meet held in 2017

What is CDRI?

Currently, there is no focus being provided to building disaster-resilient infrastructure. Currently, the focus is being provided only to natural disasters. Under this issue as base, the CDRI will aid in reshaping construction. It will aim in building strong climate resilient infrastructures that will reshape construction in core sectors such as energy, transportation, telecommunication and water.

Significance

According to Sendai Framework, 1 USD spent in disaster risk reduction is 7 USD gained. However, the developing countries are facing problems to balance economic investment and disaster resilient infrastructure. CDRI will help countries in solving these problems.

India as world leader

India is doing so well in preventing human deaths due to disasters. India’s measures to control Corona Virus says it all. For a country with second highest population in the world, the spread is 0.3% which is miniscule as compared to developed countries like USA, UK, France.

India is a world leader in adopting preventive measures to avoid human deaths due to disasters. India’s “Zero Casualty Approach” has gained several praises all over the world including United Nations.
