Union Cabinet approves the Land Acquisition Bill
Union Cabinet cleared the controversial Land Acquisition Bill which makes it mandatory to get the consent of 80% of people whose land is taken for private projects.
In the case of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, consent of 70 % of the people possessing the land will be required. The bill has a provision for return of the unutilized land. No such provision was there in Land Acquisition Act, 1894.
Government will introduce the official amendments to the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011 in the Lok Sabha in the winter session.
